Software Update Removes Feature User Liked; Adds Feature Nobody Asked For
The overnight update replaced the universally beloved 'do not disturb' shortcut with an AI-generated daily affirmation that cannot be disabled.

Users of the popular Orbis smartwatch awoke Wednesday to discover that an overnight software update had removed the device's most popular feature -- a one-tap 'do not disturb' toggle -- and replaced it with an AI-generated daily affirmation engine that delivers inspirational messages at random intervals throughout the day.
The update, version 4.7.2, was pushed automatically at 3 a.m. without user consent, a practice Orbis describes as 'seamless improvement delivery.'
'I tried to silence my watch during a meeting and instead it told me I am a river of potential flowing toward the ocean of my dreams,' said user Rachel Firmware, 34. 'My boss saw it. Everyone saw it. The ocean of my dreams was displayed on my wrist in a meeting about Q1 revenue.'
The affirmation engine, which Orbis calls 'InspireOS,' cannot be disabled, minimized, or ignored. It generates a new affirmation every 45 to 90 minutes, delivered with a haptic pulse that users describe as 'aggressive for an inspirational experience.'
Sample affirmations collected from frustrated users include: 'You are the architect of your own sunrise,' 'Your potential is a garden; water it with intention,' and the baffling 'You are not a lighthouse, but you could be.'
'What does that even mean?' asked user Gerald Stack, 57. 'I don't want to be a lighthouse. I wanted to mute my notifications. Those are very different things.'
Orbis CEO Diana Iterate defended the change in a blog post titled 'Why We Removed Do Not Disturb and You'll Thank Us Later.'
'Our data showed that Do Not Disturb was our most-used feature,' Iterate wrote. 'But we asked ourselves: are people silencing their notifications, or are they silencing their potential? InspireOS ensures they never have to do either.'
A petition to restore Do Not Disturb has gathered 340,000 signatures. Orbis has responded by pushing an additional update that adds an AI-generated gratitude journal. It also cannot be disabled.
AI-generated satirical fiction. Not real news.
