Startup Raises $17 Million to Develop AI That Just Says “Hold”
Backed by several top VC firms, HODLbot is designed to ignore all market data, personal context, and rationality—repeating “Hold” in various soothing tones until the user either gives up or becomes a legend.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—In what venture capitalists are calling “a revolution in behavioral finance,” startup NeuralHODL has secured $17 million in seed funding to develop HODLbot, a conversational AI assistant trained to say nothing but “Hold” in 243 different voices.
“Our mission is simple: eliminate weak hands from existence,” said founder and former philosophy major Gavin Pohl, 27, whose last startup was a meditation app for dogs. “Too many investors sell based on fear, data, or the disapproving look from their spouse. HODLbot cuts through all that with a firm, affirming, algorithmic refusal to panic.”
The AI, currently in beta, is designed to activate any time the user tries to sell, withdraw funds, or Google “how to recover from options loss.” It then calmly replies:
“Hold.”
“Still hold.”
“Hold, you coward.”
“Diamond hands detect weakness.”
The voice options include “Stoic Grandpa,” “Reddit Cult Leader,” “Crypto Monk,” and “Your Ex Who Was Right About Ethereum.” Users can also opt for ambient soundscapes, like “Roaring Bullhorns” or “Soothing Margin Call Rain.”
According to its website, HODLbot is trained on thousands of hours of meme stock posts, Bitcoin halving cycles, and audio of people saying “It’s not a loss if you don’t sell” while sobbing. The training data excludes all professional analysts and includes only YouTubers who record while driving.
Early adopters report that HODLbot has “transformed their financial discipline” and “helped them ignore their better judgment entirely.”
“I was about to dump my portfolio,” said beta tester Brandon Keller, 31. “But then HODLbot whispered ‘Would Keith Gill sell?’ and I started crying. I still have my AMC shares. All of them.”
Investors are bullish on the product’s long-term potential. “This is AI at its finest: not solving a problem, but institutionalizing denial at scale,” said A16Z partner Liza Dent. “Honestly, I use it on myself.”
A paid version, HODLbot Platinum, will offer premium features like:
Personalized tough love: “You sold at breakeven? Shame.”
Motivational insults from a simulated Michael Burry
A 30-second emergency breathing exercise overlaid with the Dogecoin chart
At press time, NeuralHODL confirmed they were working on a new enterprise version for hedge funds called “Ignore The Fed.”
