Synchronized Diving Pair Executes Flawless Routine, Discovers They Were Not Supposed to Be Partners

An administrative error at the World Aquatics Championships resulted in two divers from different countries being assigned to adjacent platforms for a synchronized diving event in which they were not paired, only for both athletes to execute identical dives in what judges described as 'the most perfect accidental synchronization in the history of the sport.' The error occurred when Italian diver Luca Torsion and Australian diver Ryan Inward were both scheduled for individual platform practice at 10:00 AM. Due to a database glitch, both appeared on the synchronized event sheet as a pair. Neither was informed of the mistake. 'I assumed it was a surprise pairing,' said Torsion through a translator.
