Watch Influencer's 'Honest Review' Funded by Every Brand Except the One He Criticized

Watch YouTuber and self-described 'independent voice in horology' Marcus Chronos has been exposed as the recipient of sponsorship payments from eleven separate watch brands, all of which funded a single video in which Chronos delivered what he presented as an 'unbiased, brutally honest review' of the one brand that did not pay him. The video, titled 'The Truth About [Brand Redacted] That Nobody Will Tell You,' accumulated 4.2 million views and featured Chronos examining the brand's flagship model under harsh studio lighting while repeatedly using the phrases 'disappointing finishing,' 'unacceptable at this price point,' and 'I expected more.' Documents obtained through a trademark dispute filing reveal that the video's production was funded through a network of eleven shell companies, each traceable to a competing Swiss manufacture. 'Each brand contributed approximately $15,000,' said forensic accountant Petra Ledger, who reviewed the financial records. 'The arrangement was structured so that no single brand appeared to be the sponsor. Mr. Chronos disclosed the video as containing paid promotion, which is technically accurate — he just didn't mention that the promotion was for the concept of disliking one specific company.'
