Zoomer's Resume Rejected for Being 'Just a Link to Their LinkedIn Which Is Just a Link to Their TikTok'

Hiring manager Patricia Caldwell of Zenith Marketing Solutions has rejected an application from a 21-year-old candidate whose resume consisted entirely of a hyperlink to their LinkedIn profile, which itself consisted entirely of a link to their TikTok account, which contained a pinned video titled 'hire me challenge (I'm serious).' 'I clicked the resume link expecting qualifications,' Caldwell said. 'I got a LinkedIn page with no work history, no education section, and a headline that read vibe architect and chaos coordinator. The About section was just a link to TikTok. I followed the link. The TikTok was a 15-second video of the applicant pointing at text that said I'm literally perfect for this role overlaid on a clip of them doing a trending dance.' The applicant, who asked to be identified only as 'Kai,' defended the approach. 'My TikTok has 340,000 followers. That IS my resume. Do you know how hard it is to get 340,000 people to care about you? That demonstrates marketing ability, audience engagement, content strategy, and personal branding. What does a Word document demonstrate? That you know how to use Word?' Caldwell acknowledged that Kai's follower count was impressive but noted that the position required 'proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, not the ability to do the Renegade.' Kai responded by posting a TikTok about the rejection. The video, captioned 'POV: boomer HR doesn't understand digital native resumes,' has received 2.1 million views and resulted in three job offers from companies that saw it. 'The system works,' Kai said. 'Just not through the system.' Caldwell has since received fourteen additional applications in TikTok format. She has updated the job listing to specify 'PDF resumes only,' a requirement that one applicant described as 'literally gatekeeping.'
